NELSON SAUVIN HOPS
Nelson Sauvin is an excellent dual purpose hop; providing both intense, distinct flavour characteristics as well as high alphas. An excellent all-rounder, this hop is able to produce big punchy Ales as well as subtle yet bitter Lagers. In a nutshell, Nelson Sauvin embodies a “quintessentially New Zealand” variety, earning international recognition in the craft and seasonal beer market.
New Zealand Hort Research developed this variety by breeding a New Zealand Smooth cone variety with a selected New Zealand male. In 2000, it earned the name Nelson Sauvin due to its distinct fresh crushed gooseberry smell, often associated with the Sauvignon Blanc.
