EL DORADO HOPS

El Dorado is a relatively new kid on the block. Created by Moxee Valley-based CLS Farms, LLC in 2008, it was released to the public in 2010. Some say it’s the grandchild of a native wild hops found in Colorado.

El Dorado definitely has intense, wild aromas such as those of stone fruit, particularly cherry and apricot. Other aromas may include pear, a zest of citrus, and watermelon; possibly bold enough to seem candied like refreshers.

Spicy notes are low key, playing second fiddle to the strong fruit, but brews may have a background hint of grass, wood, and mint.

A product of the Yakima Valley’s cooler climate, El Dorado features a uniquely fruity flavour profile in addition to desirable bittering and aromatic properties. It is a great dual purpose hop, giving a firm and subtly balanced bitterness, or when used later in the boil, a very fruity brew with grassy undertones. When using as a dry-hop, that is when you see the zesty and tangy notes come out.
